Product Description
The X-Marker is suitable for day, night, and adverse weather conditions. Its shape recognition exceeds those outlined in the FAA Technical Report DOT/FAA/CT-TN87/3, "Development of A Visual Aid to Indicate Temporary Runway Closure," dated January 1987. Its size, shape, positioning, ease of deployment, and operating duration all exceed the requirements set forth in FAA Advisory Circular 150/5345-55A, "Specification for L-893, Lighted Visual Aid to Indicate Temporary Runway Closure," dated June 27, 2007.
Two 27-foot arms form the X-Marker’s "X" shape. Each arm has two styles of lights to meet conditions on the runway. The white spot lights are for daytime operations, while the amber lights are for nighttime and adverse weather conditions. The flashing rate is adjustable. The "X" frame assembly can pivot from horizontal to completely vertical and beyond, with up to 105 degrees of rotation.
The large X-Marker "X" is distinguishable from other lighted visual devices used on airports. Pilots can see the bright flashing lights on the runway from 3 to 6 miles away, depending on environmental conditions. Pilots can distinguish the flashing light as an “X” at 2 miles, which provides ample opportunity to execute a safe missed approach.
